Curriculum

Here at Banana Moon Day Nursery, we offer a play based day with hidden learning!

We provide well planned experiences indoors and outdoors based on each individual child’s interests. Our staff team will support all children to learn with enjoyment and challenge, having a balance of child initiated and adult led play based activities.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (aka the EYFS) which is a statutory framework, covering learning and development from the day your child is born until the end of their first year at school. Banana Moon Day Nursery provides all children with a firm foundation on which to build future academic, social and emotional success. We do this by ensuring the Early Years Foundation Stage themes are embedded in all aspects of what we do.

The four guiding principles are as follows:

  • Unique Child- Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured;
  • Positive Relationships- Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships;
  • Enabling Environments- Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers; and
  • Learning and development- Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

At Banana Moon Day Nursery, our routines, activities and nursery environments are designed to enhance these areas, offering them opportunities to play and practice their growing skills, ensuring that every child has an opportunity to learn and develop at a pace that is suitable to them.

We observe, assess and plan your children in each of these areas, allowing us to provide a variety of learning experiences that are not only of interest to them, but building on what they already know!

Practitioners will observe your child on a regular basis to identify and assess the progress they are making – regardless of your child’s age or their attendance pattern at nursery. Observations help practitioners to decide where the children are in their learning and development and to plan what to do next.
Observations and photographs of your child will be placed in their own Learning Journey. This document captures their learning from the first day they start at Banana Moon until the day we say goodbye. We encourage parents and other family members to contribute to this document throughout your child’s time at Banana Moon Day Nursery.
